Role Description

The Revenue Accounting Specialist is responsible for ensuring accurate and timely recognition of revenue in accordance with applicable accounting standards and company policies. This role involves analyzing contracts, sales agreements, and financial transactions to determine the appropriate timing and method of revenue recognition. The Revenue Accounting Specialist works closely with cross-functional teams, including sales, finance, and legal, to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and to support financial reporting accuracy.

Responsibilities

  • Review and summarize customer arrangements with both standard and non-standard terms for proper revenue recognition in accordance with company policy and revenue recognition accounting standards
  • Generate maintenance and other invoices in Intacct, ensuring timely invoicing in accordance with the terms of agreement
  • Identify Multiple-Element Arrangements and perform revenue allocations in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare and book journal entries to ensure appropriate revenue treatment
  • Assist with the month-end financial close by performing monthly revenue related tasks and analysis including reconciliations related to deferred revenue accounts
  • Ensure the integrity of key processes by understanding systems, flow of transactions, internal controls and recommending efficiency and effectiveness improvements
  • Edit and update the Salesforce customer database and assist with account support
  • Research issues raised by customers related to their billing and resolve discrepancies
  • Assist with internal and external audit requests in a multi-entity environment
  • Perform maintenance-related analysis as requested by others
  • Other responsibilities, reporting and additional ad hoc requests as necessary

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
  • 1 - 3 years of experience in accounting and/or revenue
  • Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Customer service orientation (internal & external) with ability to successfully deal with questions and resolve issues
  • Absolute integrity and the use of good judgment to handle confidential nature of duties, tasks & information
  • Good time management skills and ability to meet critical deadlines
  • Ability to learn quickly with strong attention to detail
  • Analytical and creative problem-solving skills
  • Experience with financial systems a plus; Salesforce, CPQ, Sage Intacct
  • Knowledge of ASC 606 principles and an understanding of GAAP is a plus
  • Software industry experience a plus
  • Integration of merged & acquired businesses is a plus
