Role Description

The Sr. Network Engineer is responsible for designing, installing, optimizing, and maintaining the network infrastructure that drives the success of our organization. This role involves architecting network solution, configuring and managing network hardware and software, troubleshooting network issues, documenting root cause and post-mortem analyses around security incidents and service interruptions, and supporting network users. 

Responsibilities

  • Be the escalation point and expert on this global, multi-office network infrastructure. Identify issues and obstructions to a secure, efficient network and resolve them.
  • Configure, install, and maintain network hardware and software, including routers, switches, firewalls, and access points.
  • Monitor network performance and troubleshoot issues to maintain high availability and performance.
  • Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection systems, and access controls.
  • Monitor network traffic for security threats and vulnerabilities.
  • Conduct regular security audits and assessments to ensure compliance with security policies and standards.
  • Provide technical support for network-related issues, including connectivity problems, hardware malfunctions, and software errors.
  • Diagnose and resolve network problems promptly to minimize downtime and disruptions.
  • Assist users with network access and connectivity issues.
  • Create and maintain detailed network documentation, including network diagrams, configurations, policies, and procedures.
  • Document network changes, upgrades, and maintenance activities.
  • Develop and update troubleshooting guides and standard operating procedures.
  • Plan and implement network upgrades and expansions to align with organizational objectives and technological advancements.
  • Evaluate new network technologies and solutions to improve network performance and efficiency with a focus on strategic and scalable growth.
  • Identify critical metrics to network health and monitor/track them. Conduct regular network performance tests.
  • Work closely with IT teams and other departments to support network-related projects and initiatives.
  • Coordinate with external vendors and service providers for network installations, upgrades, and maintenance.
  • Participate in cross-functional teams to design and implement network solutions.
  • Share knowledge and expertise with team members to enhance overall network management capabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with industry standards, regulations, and internal policies related to network security and management.
  • Stay current with industry trends and best practices in network management and security.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, engineering, or related field or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 3 years of enterprise-level experience as a network engineer or administrator in a lead position, preferably with Cisco/Meraki products and technologies.
  • Experience with production system designs including Infrastructure as Code, High Availability, and Performance monitoring
  • Scripting language experience (Python, Bash, PowerShell)
  • Strong knowledge of network protocols, standards, and architectures, such as TCP/IP, LAN, WAN, WLAN, VLAN, VPN, MPLS, QoS, etc.
  • Proficient in network configuration, management, and troubleshooting tools, such as Meraki Dashboard, Wireshark, Ping, Nmap, etc.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS and Azure
  • Experience with network security and compliance, such as firewall rules, ACLs, encryption, authentication, etc.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to maintaining high standards of work.
  • Relevant certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+) are highly desirable.
  • Certification in Meraki or other network technologies is a plus.
